On a Cohen-lenstra Heuristic for Jacobians of Random Graphs

چکیده
In this paper, we make specific conjectures about the distribution of Jacobians of random graphs with their canonical duality pairings. Our conjectures are based on a Cohen-Lenstra type heuristic saying that a finite abelian group with duality pairing appears with frequency inversely proportional to the size of the group times the size of the group of automorphisms that preserve the pairing. We conjecture that the Jacobian of a random graph is cyclic with probability a little over .7935. We determine the values of several other statistics on Jacobians of random graphs that would follow from our conjectures. In support of the conjectures, we prove that random symmetric matrices over Zp, distributed according to Haar measure, have cokernels distributed according to the above heuristic. We also give experimental evidence in support of our conjectures.

On Arithmetic Of Hyperelliptic Curves
In this exposé, Pell’s equation is put in a geometric perspective, and a version of Artin’s primitive roots conjecture is formulated for hyperelliptic jacobians. Also explained are some recent results which throw new lights, having to do with Ankeny-Artin-Chowla’s conjecture, class number relations, and Cohen-Lenstra heuristics.
متن کاملOn the Mean 3-rank of Quadratic Fields
The Cohen-Lenstra-Martinet heuristics give precise predictions about the class groups of a “random” number field. The 3-rank of quadratic fields is one of the few instances where these have been proven. In the present paper, we prove that, in this case, the rate of convergence is at least subexponential. In addition, we show that the defect appearing in Scholz’s mirror theorem is equidistribute...
متن کاملAsymptotics of Number Fields and the Cohen–lenstra Heuristics
We study the asymptotics conjecture of Malle for dihedral groups D` of order 2`, where ` is an odd prime. We prove the expected lower bound for those groups. For the upper bounds we show that there is a connection to class groups of quadratic number fields. The asymptotic behavior of those class groups is predicted by the Cohen–Lenstra heuristics. Under the assumption of this heuristic we are a...
متن کاملRandom pro-p groups, braid groups, and random tame Galois groups
In this article we introduce a heuristic prediction for the distribution of the isomorphism class of GS(p), the Galois group of the maximal pro-p extension of Q unramified outside of S, where S is a ”random” set of primes. That these groups should exhibit any statistical regularity is not at all obvious; our expectations in this direction are guided by the Cohen-Lenstra conjectures, which (amon...
متن کاملCohen-Lenstra Heuristics of Quadratic Number Fields
We establish a link between some heuristic asymptotic formulas (due to Cohen and Lenstra) concerning the moments of the p–part of the class groups of quadratic fields and formulas giving the frequency of the values of the p–rank of these class groups. Furthermore we report on new results for 4–ranks of class groups of quadratic number fields.
